Introduction to Smokers Coalition

by admin on April 26, 2011

I’ve had a lot of ideas for this “coalition.” I really wasn’t sure what avenue I would like to talk about. There are so many different aspects of smoking that can be discussed. The illegalisation of cigarettes is why I initially thought of this domain. I am a cigarette smoker, and feel like we as smokers are getting snuffed out. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t want to kill you with my second hand smoke. Or cause you poor health as you get older. I would like to be able to enjoy my cigarette though.

Taking it outside, a popular slogan before it became hard to smoke on others properties and in the general public in some cases, is something I’ve done for years. I actually used to go to the bar during the winter just to be able to enjoy a cigarette indoors, a luxury I won’t be able to do again with the current laws.

As I’ve come to realize, there are a lot of people who share the same concerns that I have with restricting a persons choice to smoke a cigarette. Other people are concerned about legalizing marijuanna or stopping the witch hunt for illegalising k2 and other similar “pot-pourri’s” My main concern is the driving force of other groups and individuals that feel like they need to impose rules and laws on what we consume or put in our bodies. Is it the “mother” or “father” in them? Are they really just looking out for me and my well being? There are many people who simply ARE just concerned with my well being and health. I would hope those same people would stand beside us in support of our rights to make that decision for ourselves.

Hookah’s are a nice alternative to smoking. I still wanted to have a cigarette when I was done, but I could see where it may even be a way to stop smoking cigarettes and breaking that dependence on nicotine.

Another smoker that I spoke with when buying this domain said he didn’t want to get involved because a future employer may look at this as something bad, especially if I spoke of marijuanna and being in favor of legalizing it. I wondered at the time, if that is what we are groomed to believe. Speak out and say what you want and you will be penalized by not having a job, or not being able to support your family, or being a social outcast. That’s really the moment I made my decision, If I don’t say anything who will? And if I don’t raise the question and take a stand who will?

After saying all that, and thinking about it for several months, it seems clear that all forms of smoking should be discussed here. I should speak of marijuanna and reasons to have it legalized for medicinal purposes as well as for recreational use. Taking into account the negatives as well (if there are any) and discuss them as well.

Maybe some of these same ideas have crossed your mind, or you think “I can’t do anything about it anyway.” Or you are one of the people or groups who will benefit from controlling my decisions through laws and restrictions. Maybe you are just someone who came along and found this to be interesting and would like to find out different points of views other than your own. Whatever your motive or interest, welcome to the coalition and step up to the plate and leave a comment on where you stand, and how you feel about it.

If we can’t discuss it, and come to a common ground on all the matters at hand. We fail ourselves. We fail our existence, and we repeat history. Controlling other human beings choices isn’t the answer.

If you don’t know what a proxy server is then here is a description as posted in wikipedia:

In computer networks, a proxy server is a server (a computer system or an application) that acts as an intermediary for requests from clients seeking resources from other servers. A client connects to the proxy server, requesting some service, such as a file, connection, web page, or other resource, available from a different server. The proxy server evaluates the request according to its filtering rules. For example, it may filter traffic by IP address or protocol. If the request is validated by the filter, the proxy provides the resource by connecting to the relevant server and requesting the service on behalf of the client. A proxy server may optionally alter the client’s request or the server’s response, and sometimes it may serve the request without contacting the specified server. In this case, it ‘caches’ responses from the remote server, and returns subsequent requests for the same content directly.

Most proxies are a web proxy, allowing access to content on the World Wide Web.

A proxy server has a large variety of potential purposes, including:

* To keep machines behind it anonymous (mainly for security).[1]
* To speed up access to resources (using caching). Web proxies are commonly used to cache web pages from a web server.[2]
* To apply access policy to network services or content, e.g. to block undesired sites.
* To log / audit usage, i.e. to provide company employee Internet usage reporting.
* To bypass security/ parental controls.
* To scan transmitted content for malware before delivery.
* To scan outbound content, e.g., for data leak protection.
* To circumvent regional restrictions.

A proxy server that passes requests and replies unmodified is usually called a gateway or sometimes tunneling proxy.

A proxy server can be placed in the user’s local computer or at various points between the user and the destination servers on the Internet.

A reverse proxy is (usually) an Internet-facing proxy used as a front-end to control and protect access to a server on a private network, commonly also performing tasks such as load-balancing, authentication, decryption or caching.
